Stained glass windows in English Churches & Cathedrals were the inspiration for this subject. Strong colours such as red and blue are contrasted against the white china background to give a feeling of daylight behind glass. Gold lines imitate the leaded window outlines and an architectural framework links the actual window shapes with smaller details of flowing leaf patterns, sprays and shapes to be found in the ornamental framework of church windows.
